Twin Oaks Elementary School | Flexible Seating for ESS Students

Twin Oaks Elementary School | Flexible Seating for ESS Students

Purpose: "There are no additional supports needed by personnel that would not be met through the use of district mandated collaboration between disciplines or ongoing district sponsored professional development.

Physical activity has been proven to improve academic performance. Flexible seating in the classroom promotes choice. Students learn best when they have some control over their environment. Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and with whom. It also allows them to change their position and location as needed. Children need to move. When they are not allowed to move while learning they can become distracted or disruptive. Flexible seating gives the students a more positive outlet for their energy."

Impact: "Over 40 ESS students were impacted by this grant. Student behavior improved because students were able to move while learning. Reading became a favorite activity when they could read on beanbags around the room. General education teachers were able to utilize the seating in their own classroom and saw a positive impact on student learning. Other teachers in our school were inspired to incorporate flexible seating in their classrooms. Thank you EBR Foundation and ADF!"
