Mission & History

Who We Are

The Foundation for East Baton Rouge School System is a tax-exempt public charity and grant-making organization that provides vital support to area students, teachers and school administrators by building effective partnerships and funding high-impact projects for which tax dollars are not available.

Our mission is to enhance education, champion innovation and provide sustained financial support to public schools within the East Baton Rouge Parish School System.

The Foundation shares its mission with more than 10,000 similar nonprofit organizations nationwide dedicated to improving the quality of public schools and strengthening relationships between school districts and the communities they serve.

Our History

Organized in 2011 by a group of concerned citizens and in coordination with the East Baton Rouge Parish School System and the National School Foundation, the Foundation for East Baton Rouge School System was incorporated as a Louisiana nonprofit in 2012 and granted IRS tax-exempt status as a 501(c)(3) public charity in 2013.

Why We Matter

State and local funding per student in Louisiana trails the national average by more than $1,000 per child*, a deficit that reduces opportunities for learning and leads to an overall diminishment of community resources and economic vitality for our region. Unfortunately, the most basic needs of parish public schools continue to exceed the capacity of traditional funding sources, a trend likely to continue.

Our Transparency

The Foundation for East Baton Rouge School System has annual clean audits. In 2023, it earned the the Platinum Seal of Transparency on GuideStar.
