One Year of Leadership: Superintendent LaMont Cole's First Year

July 28, 2025—This month marked one year since Superintendent LaMont Cole was appointed to lead the East Baton Rouge Parish School System. As he reflected on this milestone, Superintendent Cole shared a message of gratitude, optimism, and commitment to the work ahead. His first year has been guided by a bold vision to put students first and to build a more responsive, equitable, and high-performing district—one that truly dares to be great. With a focus on collaboration and transparent leadership, he has worked to unite educators, families, and community partners around a shared goal of student success.

Over the past year, the district has made meaningful strides, launching a renewed Strategic Plan focused on student achievement, operational excellence, and employee development. Key milestones include the approval of the Realignment Plan, the creation of Foundational Learning Centers at Melrose and Merrydale, and the successful renewal of five local millages that will generate nearly $100 million annually over the next decade to sustain public education across East Baton Rouge Parish.

As proud partners in this journey, the Foundation for East Baton Rouge School System remains dedicated to supporting initiatives that drive long-term impact for students and educators.  Together with Superintendent Cole and the broader community, we are committed to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed—and the encouragement to Dare to Be Great.
