Claiborne Elementary Students Received 100 Laptops Thanks to the James M. Cox Foundation

December 13, 2024—The Foundation for East Baton Rouge School System, in partnership with district leaders, was excited to announce that Claiborne Elementary School had received a gift of laptops from the James M. Cox Foundation. The Foundation, the charitable arm of Cox Enterprises—parent company of Cox Communications—is named after the company’s founder.

Selected students in grades 3 through 5 received personal laptops through a partnership with the vendor, PCs for People. The devices helped bridge the gap between home and school, supporting students on their educational journeys and ensuring access to the tools they needed to succeed in the digital age.

“We were proud to work with the Foundation for East Baton Rouge School System, the James M. Cox Foundation, and PCs for People to make this opportunity a reality for our students,” said LaMont Cole, EBRPSS Superintendent. “This collaboration helped advance digital inclusion and created brighter futures for our young learners.”

“Community partnerships like this are exactly what we need more of to help our students thrive,” said Jennifer Lightfoot, Executive Director of the Foundation for East Baton Rouge School System. “When organizations came together to invest in our children’s future, the entire community benefits.”

A celebratory event was help on December 9, 2025, to mark this momentous occasion. Families of selected students were invited to attend as the Foundation shared the joy of these students receiving their very own personal laptops for home use.

“With generous support from the James M. Cox Foundation, we remained committed to carrying forward the mission of our founder, James M. Cox, by using technology to serve the community,” said Erin Monroe, Market Vice President for Cox Greater Louisiana. “Whether it was through our employees contributing countless volunteer hours in Southeast Louisiana or expanding broadband services to underserved areas across the state, we were committed to providing essential connections to those who needed them most. The Foundation for East Baton Rouge School System’s work to promote digital literacy always resonated with the people who lived here.”
