Art at the Park: Art & Music Integration in the ELA Curriculum | Glen Oaks Elementary School

Purpose: Students will be immersed in art and music integration tying in common core standards they are learning in English Language Arts. Students PreK-5 will improve their creative writing skills, as well as their speaking and listening skills through active participation in the visual arts, drama and music.

Impact: Currently the students have used the art books granted in this project to do research on the artists and have taken Accelerated Reader tests on them. They were not able to create and perform plays for the whole school yet because the materials were delivered later than expected and was during statewide testing and prep.  

Students were excited about the materials and were totally engaged in the types of books donated. They were able to make connections to what they learned in art and English Language Arts class. The students performed very well on Accelerated Reading tests and were able to make their 9 week reading goals as a result.

The project will be fully implemented in the 2019-2020 school year.
