John Spencer Is Featured Speaker at Distinguished Speaker Series Event on October 11
Foundation for East Baton Rouge School System and Academic Distinction Fund are hosting Mr. John Spencer as their featured speaker at the October 11, 2016 Distinguished Speaker Series Event. The event will be held at the Crowne Plaza Conference Center from 4:30-6:30 pm.
John Spencer is a former award-winning middle school teacher who is now a full-time professor of instructional technology in Oregon. He is passionate about seeing schools embrace creativity and design thinking. In 2014, he shared this vision in a speech at the White House on the future of education. Spencer is the co-author of several education books, including the best-seller Launch: Using the Design Thinking Process to Boost Creativity and Bring Out the Maker in Every Student. He is also the co-founder of two educational technology startups, Write About and Blend Education.
Despite the myth of “digital natives,” most of students have very little experience using technology as anything more than a consumer device. It doesn’t have to be this way.
By using a design thinking framework, teachers can foster creative thinking in every content area. John will walk participants through the design thinking cycle, offering practical tips and specific examples. Participants lwill eave feeling inspired, challenged and empowered to create spaces where creativity thrives.
