If you want to be in the know about what’s going on at our organization, you’ve come to the right place.

Mentoring a young person in the STEM fields should start as early as pre-school, but many students have people nearby in the community who can serve as role models. Last week teams of EBR eighth graders expanded their first-hand knowledge of STEM careers by participating in EngineerIT, an environmental engineering project co-sponsored by STEMup BR and Louisiana Women in Technology. Mentors serving in this project were none other than the City of Baton Rouge’s Department of Environmental Services (DES).

In October, Knock, Knock Children’s Museum invited elementary school librarians to challenge students to design cardboard “arcade games” that could be used by children visiting the museum.

BR STEM Network is a collaborative group of individuals representing diverse organizations working to build and stimulate STEM activities in Baton Rouge from pre-K to high school and beyond to all forms of higher and continuing education. The Network has made great progress in that work to date and will continue to achieve these goals by conducting a survey to more broadly determine STEM assets in our community. We appreciate your participation and input. We will be using the findings from this survey to further refine the strategy to effectively scale STEM programming in our region.

Last week at the US2020 STEM Mentoring Awards and Symposium, IBM’s Client Innovation Center in Baton Rouge was named the “2017 Excellence in Volunteer Mobilization Award” winner. The award recognizes IBM-BR’s corporate culture for STEM mentoring and community engagement.

The Foundation for East Baton Rouge School System is seeking proposals from select elementary, middle and high schools in East Baton Rouge Parish School system to implement high-quality, innovative STEM programs. Proposed projects should align with the BR STEM Network vision, goals and identified strategies.

ExxonMobil collaborated with Brookstown Middle School and Foundation for EBR Schools to develop an innovative STEM pilot project by teaching students at Brookstown Middle how to operate an Aquaponics lab. The lab features a unique mural designed by The Walls Project.

STEM makes our day-to-day lives a reality. We are able to get to our jobs and school, eat delicious food, monitor our health, and communicate with friends and family across the world thanks to innovative technology. The next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs will need to apply their solid understanding of STEM disciplines to take on the toughest challenges and make the world a better place.

In celebration of Baton Rouge’s Bicentennial BATON ROUGE, (Sept. 15, 2017) – The Red Stick Project and Capital Area Transit System (CATS) are celebrating Baton Rouge's Bicentennial with an Art Contest for students. The contest celebrates 200 years of Baton Rouge’s history and future in public transportation. It embraces ALL types of public transportation.

Congressman Garrett Graves visited Lee High School on Thursday, August 31, 2017, to encourage students to participate in the Congressional App Challenge (CAC), a high school app competition designed to engage student’s creativity and encourage their participation in computer science.

The East Baton Rouge Parish public school system resumed classes on Wednesday, August 9, welcoming students to campuses throughout the area. EBRPSS Superintendent Warren Drake and other administration, City Parish Mayor President, Sharon Weston-Broome, VIPS volunteers and school partners provided warm welcomes to students at campuses across the district.
