ExxonMobil Gives $100,000 for Stem Learning Network

The Foundation for East Baton Rouge School System (EBRSS) has received $100,000 from ExxonMobil to help establish the STEM Learning Network, Pathways to STEM Education in East Baton Rouge Parish Schools.

The STEM Learning Network, Pathways to STEM Education is a comprehensive route to transforming the promise of STEM education into real impact for our community. This project will create high-quality STEM learning opportunities for K-12 students and teachers. Through the STEM Learning Network, the Foundation for EBRSS will provide resources, support and a structure for teachers, administrators, parents, community and business leaders to deepen connections with students and schools.

“The Foundation is extremely grateful to ExxonMobil for its support of the STEM Learning Network,” says Keila Stovall, executive director, Foundation for EBRSS. “This partnership with ExxonMobil will promote successful practices that support academic excellence and increase the number of technology-rich, workforce-relevant experiences for students in our schools.”

The STEM Learning Network is a comprehensive pathway for STEM experiences for students in all grades, K-12 including STEMup middle school mentoring, Maker Spaces in elementary school libraries, teacher grants, innovative school grants, professional development opportunities, robotics, chess and STEM expos. Additionally, the network will establish and guide school community advisory boards in matching STEM career professionals with educators seeking to deepen the influence of STEM education. Two schools, Scotlandville Magnet Pre-Engineering Academy and Lee High School, will receive funding to implement project-based learning initiatives for high school students.

“Quality STEM education experiences support student success, expand career opportunities, and foster overall economic growth,” said Ken Miller, Baton Rouge area engineering services manager at ExxonMobil. “This partnership will help provide students, our future leaders, with strong math and science skills that are critical to the jobs of today and tomorrow.”
