Q: How are the Foundation’s directors chosen?
A: The initial Board was selected by an ad hoc steering committee and represent varied constituencies throughout the Baton Rouge community who are interested in public education. Four EBRPSS representatives serve as advisors to the Foundation and have no voting authority. These ex officio members include the EBRPSS Superintendent, a school board member, and two district staff members.
Q: How do I know that my gift to the Foundation for EBRSS is really going to help the schools?
A: The Foundation for EBRSS’s staff and its board of directors approve all expenditures and provide oversight to ensure that designated gifts reach the appropriate recipients.
Q: How does the Foundation for EBRSS make a difference in the community?
A: The economic vitality and quality of life in a community are directly linked to the quality of the education system. Partnerships promote prosperity, and the public education of residents becomes the backbone of the future work force.
Q: Is the Foundation for EBRSS part of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System?
A: No. The Foundation for EBRSS is a separate and independent non-profit organization and operates under its own guidelines and mission. However, foundation board members work closely with the school system to identify and understand educational needs.
Q: May I donate to a particular program or school?
A: Yes, you can designate your gift to a particular program or school.
Q: Why should I contribute to the Foundation for EBRSS when I already pay taxes to the East Baton Rouge Parish School System?
A: The most basic and reasonable needs of the school system continue to exceed the capacity of traditional funding sources ( i.e. tax revenues and state/federal government support) - a trend that is unfortunately likely to continue. Our students deserve an education that will prepare them to compete in today’s global market. Therefore, EBRPSS must be ranked at the top of the list of organizations and agencies deserving community support. The beneficiaries of this support are our most precious resource…our children, as well as, the whole Baton Rouge community.
